WELCOME "HAITI'S HOPE" To Diakonos International's "K.T.F.N.D" Home in Haiti!

Special Update:  Jan 2011 - Feb 2011:

Pastor Jay with our very own artist, Roodchy and K.T.F.N.D.'s kids

On Jan 12th 2010 the Catastrophic earthquake shook a lot of lives in Haiti, especially in Carrefour, Leogane, Jacmel and Port-au-Prince. Diakonos International's Family flew down to the island of Hispanola right away. It took Martine, her Sister Marie and a Pediatrician Dr. Johanne Dupiton (photo on the left) weeks to gather all our Godkids, who were now left homeless, in despair, and without safe schools to return to. Even though they were at the epicenter, all the children were alive... a real true Miracle from God!

On Jan 12th 2011, there could not have been a more perfect day for God to send Pastor Jay and Liony from South Florida's "Haiti's Hope". They brought comfort and lent a shoulder to all our devastated little survivors. They also brought new rubber shoes for everyone. They prayed and shared God's love with each other the way a real family does on such a day.
On their return to the USA we received a special gift from them - this wonderful video of their trip and our Godchildren!  Make sure to turn on your speakers to hear the awesome music!

LONG OVERDUE NEWS. STAY TUNE FOR MORE

DEC. 2010 - Jan. 2011
Merry After Christmas and Happy After Holy Days!
(By our very own Capt.Joei)

Update:
Over a month without a good camera, another month with no phone or Internet. All back online as of yesterday, when there is power, thanks to an anonymous donation of 200. Plz stand by for New photos, School Report cards and a brief history of each child, next week, when Martine will get a break from flying/working.
So very Proud to announce that 2 of our Godkids James Angelo Maurice and Mirlande Michel are in the top 4 of the entire school grades. Holding 1st and 2nd place respectively....Bravo Smart kids!  Last month she knew buying food was most important. A few of the extra donations we sent on the pallets were sold or traded for food, with our blessings.

RECENTLY IN HAITI:

The last 5 pallets from last years donations arrived the first week of DEC...Including a new Digital Camera, TV and DVD Player all stowed personally by the cook of the ship for us. Also some coffee pots, tools, sweaters, light bulbs, and even an office chair! YaaY

Martine flew to Haiti (carrying a huge Turkey and a giant Ham) on Christmas Day for an extravagant Christmas Dinner for the kids.  She brought Christmas Toy gifts from Ms.Lucille Lefear, who this year donated most of the toys along with Martine's children.

With so much to do, we forgot to ask Santa for 15 bunkbeds...we have to set up and break down the temporary cots because they don't all fit in the bedrooms all at one time.

Presently there are still 2 chickens of the 15 big Yummy chickens (not for eggs) donated in November by "JUDE JEROME" The kids say all the others were delicious! DONATE A CHICKEN TO THE GOD-CHILDREN CLICK HERE

Great News: NGO "I.M.C." along with Haiti Godfather Elysee and his faithful right-hand man, Domond are busy finding parts to hook up our 12 volt batteries and 2000 watt back-up inverter. The Battery Charger we did send is not charging. They are also going to start fixing everything in the house (we pray). A load of clean gravel is there and the dining room is being fixed up. "Food for the Poor" was rumored to have stopped by with no food.

Christmas Eve working. What a wonderful mess!

FT. LAUDERDALE CHRISTMAS MIRACLE:
"Diakonos International" made a very special "Thanks" to everyone who helps our little Earthquake Survivors. Hosted by Trimaran "Raptor", in the "Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade" on DEC 11th. Our Host, Trimaran "Raptor", was all dressed up for our little Home for Children in Haiti to say "Thanks" to all who send Love, Prayers and Donations from USA... YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE...THANKS!

WE WON BEST LIGHTS - SAILBOATS!
Volunteer Team "Raptor" spent 2 weeks decorating with over 12,000 lights, then hoisted a handmade LED "Haitian" Flag, a Big sign "THANKS" and a lit USA FLAG. The clear message "HAITI THANKS USA"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUT6Lk9us8M  (video of Capt. Joei's house after the Parade).

With 19 of us aboard, Martine was dressed in a frilly white dress and her stunning, yet wrong shoes, (they came off at the dock), dancing barefoot, just like in Haiti to "Kompa" Christmas music, everyone aboard tried to copy her...too funny!

Also aboard were the very well behaved US Marine corps "Young Marines" who Volunteer with"Toys for Tots" program.  It was aired live on Comcast cable, rebroadcast on Fox Sports Net, local channel 7 WSVN during the entire season and is still showing...
"Diakonos" was extremely blessed to be an entry during the most watched televised event in the state of Florida. 7th most watched event in the USA...and actually mentioned on TV!

MIAMI NOW:
Thanks to our entry in this years Parade, "Toys for Tots" was kind enough to donate 3 cases of toy Trucks, and 38 "Sailor Mickey Mouse" toys that talk saying "Merry Christmas" and "Ahoy Matey"
for awesome Christmas Presents. They were brought to Miami and Palletized for shipping to Haiti.

YOU ROCK

Hello one and all:

Just to share with you some outreach ministry that the kids and volunteer staff of the orphanage have done this week with some of the donations we received.

It is always good to share what we receive with others and our God-kids enjoyed being on the other end of giving instead of just receiving. Christmas came early for some of the people in the neighborhood of Carrefour, from toiletries, clothing, shoes to food.  Your Haitian God-children had a great time distributing donations to the people living in tents in our neighborhood  of Carrefour and for being the ones putting a smile on their faces, just as you have put a smile on theirs. IT IS A GOOD THING TO GIVE THANKS TO THE LORD FOR ALL THAT HE HAS DONE AND FOR ALLOWING US TO BE A BLESSING JUST AS YOU HAVE BEEN A BLESSING TO US.

THANK YOU SO MUCH TO ALL OF YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS. WE COULD NOT HAVE DONE THIS WITHOUT YOUR DONATIONS TO AND YOUR FAITH IN US.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO KEEP US IN YOUR PRAYERS.

A HUMONGOUS SPECIAL THANKS TO GOD-MAMA EXTRAORDINAIRE, CAPTAIN JOEI AND GOD-PAPA FANTASTICO ROB FOR NETWORKING, BRINGING ALL THE GOD-PARENTS ON BOARD AND MAKING ALL THIS POSSIBLE FOR OUR GOD-CHILDREN.

BECAUSE OF THEIR RELENTLESS EFFORT TO SEE ALL THE KIDS WELL EDUCATED, WE HAVE ONLY 7 KIDS LEFT TO BE SPONSORED FOR SCHOOL.

FOR CARING SO DEEPLY FOR US AND FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK, WE, THE GOD-CHILDREN OF KOMINOTE TI FANMI NOU de DIAKONOS INTERNATIONAL (KTFND) SAY--------

EDUCATION - They Key to Alleviate Poverty in Haiti

Education is the one path an orphaned, abandoned and homeless child can cross the class-lines that are so rigid in Haiti. Yet, because it is so expensive only a privileged few can afford it.

We thank God for those God-parents who believe that there can be real change when you invest in a child’s education. Thank you for sharing your resources with these God-children and for offering them a better future by funding their education.

Here are some photos of those who are benefiting from that help.

The older God-children in Secondary classes already have their books and uniforms which consist of Gray School Shirt, Jeans, black belt, White Socks and black Shoes.

"A mind is a terrible thing to waste"

Look at all those books!!! Even some of the God-children in Primary classes have 15 notebooks and about 6 to 8 books.

THERE NOW REMAINS 20 GODCHILDREN WHO NEED THEIR EDUCATION FUNDED. GIVE A ONE TIME A YEAR DONATION OF $220.

The Bible tells us that when we give to the poor we lend to the Lord. What a blessing it is to lend our resources to the Lord!

GREAT NEWS BELOW (we really needed it...I cried!)

Hey Captain Joei,
Just thought I would drop you a quick line to let you know i went out and met your adorable children today.  What a bunch of well behaved little sweeties!.  And you sure have a nice set up and well run operation out there.  A pleasure to see.  GrassRoots United donated some childrens underwear, clothes, shoes and blankets and some disinfectant, I hope you find it all useful.  I have attached some pics.
I spoke with Robert last week with regards to a few water related requests also, which I am working on.
Hope all is well with you.  Again, well done on such a clean and happy operation, it was a pleasure to visit.
Speak again really soon.
Kind regards.

LIFTING OF THE GATES AND CHANGING OF THE GUARDS

Lifting Gates and Hearts:

A word from our Founder:  "So exciting to watch the lifting of the new security gates before we left Haiti last weekend. They look marvelous."

As the gates were being lifted so our hearts got lifted at the same time. Welded steel works or art that will even have the name of the orphanage welded on them as soon as they are stable and the power gets restored.

School year 2010-2011
Fundraising for school enterance fees is very slow. To raise $6,883. for all the Children to attend the entire school year is huge. The cost is $4,883 just to let them start school on Monday with Uniforms and books.... PLEASE, please PRAY super hard for a real Miracle to happen now. Any ideas on how to raise this year's school tuition?  Email Captain Joei at joei@diakonosintl.com

Thank you again Godmother Lesley Warrick and her very special "Seafarers House" in Port Everglades. YOU were responsible for this month's school reservation and photo fees, by donating the items we sold. Capt. Joei and Robert have been busy too, selling them on E-bay, shipping and praying.

Changing of the Guards:

From birth to death change is our constant companion. Mankind noticed the ever presence of change centuries ago. From the changes we ourselves initiate to those we don't have anything to do with, to changes that occur without a moments notice, change is perpetual, natural and frequently a sign of life The world we live in is constantly changing and at an accelerated rate. Consequently, as an organization, we must continually adapt to this changing environment by changing ourselves or we will not survive. Change is an inevitable part of all organizations.  This has always been true. Therefore, after almost 8 months of volunteering, Jean Luc Petit- Frere has been released of his duties at the orphanage. This called for a reorganizing/restructuring of Kominote Ti Fanmi Nou with a new motivated team. Each US Godparent is now represented by one Volunteer/Staff in Haiti.

New Motivated Team:

Our new Team is made  Lucien Laborde, Martine's Brother as the Administrator, Mr. Jean-Baptiste Remarais, a former School Principal in Jacmel is now Kominote Ti Fanmi Nou de Diakonos' Program Coordinator along with Mr. Fritz Renaud, a Legal Assistant of a prominent law firm in Haiti, acting as Operations' Liason, are among other volunteers/staff of our "Special Orphanage".
Time for a new Unity by thinking together for progress and working together as a team for the success of our Godkids.

They have been very busy reserving almost all our 35 Godkids into one school. This is no small effort to go to all the old schools (if still standing) and get the documents from them.

Thanks Martine for making 2 trips to Haiti this month to facilitate this welcome change to our Volunteers and staff.

With New Team comes New Renovations

Joei's Maritime family Chef Rob Nutter, II (from the Relief vessel "Rum Cay Grace") also part of the new team, is not only supervising the kids' meals, but he is already hard at work fixing broken benches and understandably helping Domond to expand the dining area so the kids can eat indoors as oppose to outdoors. He is also doing school leg work.

Rob also invited OSMKM's "Art Team" from Thor, another area in Carrefour to come hold a fun free class for everyone. They all learned how to make beautiful paper flowers.

Life Support/Donations:

Thank you does not seem enough to say to Ginger Garte with "Royal Caribbean Cruiselines" for donating the awesome fluffy pillows. The cots were not as stiff as we thought they would be, so the pillows fill the gaps perfectly. They have become bunk mattress' as well as pillows. Each child has 3 pillows to sleep on and one to sleep with.  Thanks also for the Lotion and Hair Conditioner used after washing everyone's hair to prepare for school. No more flaky orphans!

Special prayers for the 6 pallets onboard the ship and on the way to Haiti from Miami.
Mega blessings to all for this Autum season of new beginnings.
