YOU ROCK

Hello one and all:

Just to share with you some outreach ministry that the kids and volunteer staff of the orphanage have done this week with some of the donations we received.

It is always good to share what we receive with others and our God-kids enjoyed being on the other end of giving instead of just receiving. Christmas came early for some of the people in the neighborhood of Carrefour, from toiletries, clothing, shoes to food.  Your Haitian God-children had a great time distributing donations to the people living in tents in our neighborhood  of Carrefour and for being the ones putting a smile on their faces, just as you have put a smile on theirs. IT IS A GOOD THING TO GIVE THANKS TO THE LORD FOR ALL THAT HE HAS DONE AND FOR ALLOWING US TO BE A BLESSING JUST AS YOU HAVE BEEN A BLESSING TO US.

THANK YOU SO MUCH TO ALL OF YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS. WE COULD NOT HAVE DONE THIS WITHOUT YOUR DONATIONS TO AND YOUR FAITH IN US.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO KEEP US IN YOUR PRAYERS.

A HUMONGOUS SPECIAL THANKS TO GOD-MAMA EXTRAORDINAIRE, CAPTAIN JOEI AND GOD-PAPA FANTASTICO ROB FOR NETWORKING, BRINGING ALL THE GOD-PARENTS ON BOARD AND MAKING ALL THIS POSSIBLE FOR OUR GOD-CHILDREN.

BECAUSE OF THEIR RELENTLESS EFFORT TO SEE ALL THE KIDS WELL EDUCATED, WE HAVE ONLY 7 KIDS LEFT TO BE SPONSORED FOR SCHOOL.

FOR CARING SO DEEPLY FOR US AND FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK, WE, THE GOD-CHILDREN OF KOMINOTE TI FANMI NOU de DIAKONOS INTERNATIONAL (KTFND) SAY--------

EDUCATION - They Key to Alleviate Poverty in Haiti

Education is the one path an orphaned, abandoned and homeless child can cross the class-lines that are so rigid in Haiti. Yet, because it is so expensive only a privileged few can afford it.

We thank God for those God-parents who believe that there can be real change when you invest in a child’s education. Thank you for sharing your resources with these God-children and for offering them a better future by funding their education.

Here are some photos of those who are benefiting from that help.

The older God-children in Secondary classes already have their books and uniforms which consist of Gray School Shirt, Jeans, black belt, White Socks and black Shoes.

"A mind is a terrible thing to waste"

Look at all those books!!! Even some of the God-children in Primary classes have 15 notebooks and about 6 to 8 books.

THERE NOW REMAINS 20 GODCHILDREN WHO NEED THEIR EDUCATION FUNDED. GIVE A ONE TIME A YEAR DONATION OF $220.

The Bible tells us that when we give to the poor we lend to the Lord. What a blessing it is to lend our resources to the Lord!

GREAT NEWS BELOW (we really needed it...I cried!)

Hey Captain Joei,
Just thought I would drop you a quick line to let you know i went out and met your adorable children today.  What a bunch of well behaved little sweeties!.  And you sure have a nice set up and well run operation out there.  A pleasure to see.  GrassRoots United donated some childrens underwear, clothes, shoes and blankets and some disinfectant, I hope you find it all useful.  I have attached some pics.
I spoke with Robert last week with regards to a few water related requests also, which I am working on.
Hope all is well with you.  Again, well done on such a clean and happy operation, it was a pleasure to visit.
Speak again really soon.
Kind regards.

LIFTING OF THE GATES AND CHANGING OF THE GUARDS

Lifting Gates and Hearts:

A word from our Founder:  "So exciting to watch the lifting of the new security gates before we left Haiti last weekend. They look marvelous."

As the gates were being lifted so our hearts got lifted at the same time. Welded steel works or art that will even have the name of the orphanage welded on them as soon as they are stable and the power gets restored.

School year 2010-2011
Fundraising for school enterance fees is very slow. To raise $6,883. for all the Children to attend the entire school year is huge. The cost is $4,883 just to let them start school on Monday with Uniforms and books.... PLEASE, please PRAY super hard for a real Miracle to happen now. Any ideas on how to raise this year's school tuition?  Email Captain Joei at joei@diakonosintl.com

Thank you again Godmother Lesley Warrick and her very special "Seafarers House" in Port Everglades. YOU were responsible for this month's school reservation and photo fees, by donating the items we sold. Capt. Joei and Robert have been busy too, selling them on E-bay, shipping and praying.

Changing of the Guards:

From birth to death change is our constant companion. Mankind noticed the ever presence of change centuries ago. From the changes we ourselves initiate to those we don't have anything to do with, to changes that occur without a moments notice, change is perpetual, natural and frequently a sign of life The world we live in is constantly changing and at an accelerated rate. Consequently, as an organization, we must continually adapt to this changing environment by changing ourselves or we will not survive. Change is an inevitable part of all organizations.  This has always been true. Therefore, after almost 8 months of volunteering, Jean Luc Petit- Frere has been released of his duties at the orphanage. This called for a reorganizing/restructuring of Kominote Ti Fanmi Nou with a new motivated team. Each US Godparent is now represented by one Volunteer/Staff in Haiti.

New Motivated Team:

Our new Team is made  Lucien Laborde, Martine's Brother as the Administrator, Mr. Jean-Baptiste Remarais, a former School Principal in Jacmel is now Kominote Ti Fanmi Nou de Diakonos' Program Coordinator along with Mr. Fritz Renaud, a Legal Assistant of a prominent law firm in Haiti, acting as Operations' Liason, are among other volunteers/staff of our "Special Orphanage".
Time for a new Unity by thinking together for progress and working together as a team for the success of our Godkids.

They have been very busy reserving almost all our 35 Godkids into one school. This is no small effort to go to all the old schools (if still standing) and get the documents from them.

Thanks Martine for making 2 trips to Haiti this month to facilitate this welcome change to our Volunteers and staff.

With New Team comes New Renovations

Joei's Maritime family Chef Rob Nutter, II (from the Relief vessel "Rum Cay Grace") also part of the new team, is not only supervising the kids' meals, but he is already hard at work fixing broken benches and understandably helping Domond to expand the dining area so the kids can eat indoors as oppose to outdoors. He is also doing school leg work.

Rob also invited OSMKM's "Art Team" from Thor, another area in Carrefour to come hold a fun free class for everyone. They all learned how to make beautiful paper flowers.

Life Support/Donations:

Thank you does not seem enough to say to Ginger Garte with "Royal Caribbean Cruiselines" for donating the awesome fluffy pillows. The cots were not as stiff as we thought they would be, so the pillows fill the gaps perfectly. They have become bunk mattress' as well as pillows. Each child has 3 pillows to sleep on and one to sleep with.  Thanks also for the Lotion and Hair Conditioner used after washing everyone's hair to prepare for school. No more flaky orphans!

Special prayers for the 6 pallets onboard the ship and on the way to Haiti from Miami.
Mega blessings to all for this Autum season of new beginnings.

DONATIONS ON THE WAY

August Update:

Fortunately Martine was present at the Orphanage when the kids started to all get sick with vomiting and diarrhea. One little girl even threw up on Martines lap. She quickly got in touch with the Cuban Doctors and stayed an extra couple of days to be sure they were all getting medicine.

It's a miracle that the cots donated by Godfather Earl arrived about two weeks just before the kids got sick or else they would still be sleeping on the ground and sick.

Security Progress:

"Mission Love Seeds" in Destin through a grant from The Grace Foundation, is having new strong steel gates built for super security and they are going to be a work of art as well. Hand welded in a geometric design that can be painted to look fun too.

September Missions:

1) "Grass Roots United" is sending a Team this week to go over proper sanitation procedures with the children, also a Doctor. They want to assist us in setting up this new orphanage to run very smooth.

2) Funding for a water Well is going Well with help from selling men's hair-care products donated by "Seafarers House." Presently over 1000.00 has been raised as God is an incredible E-bayer!

3) "Generous Hearts" ministry in Destin Florida has donated a check for $1000. to help us find transportation. Captain Joei is still seeking diesel transportation to ship down to the Orphanage. It is impossible to travel in any emergency situations, as well as to pick up Godparent Teams from the airport, Go to markets for food. If anyone has any vehicles they can donate or sell inexpensively, please call her at (954) 763-6733.

Donations Update: "Just what the Doctor ordered"

When the Captain of vessel "Rum Cay Grace" called in February and said they would take a van full of donations to the wharf in Carrefour for us, it was perfect timing to bring life support to our Godkids that just survived the Catastrophe.

While loading it aboard the vessel in Miami, the ships medic/Doctor Rich (a Veteran just back from the war zones)  was informed about the kids. He immediately Volunteered to go examine them.
His extensive report found many problems with the kids, but almost all of the reports said they needed "Skin Lotion and Hair Conditioner" to stop the flaking and heat rashes.

In almost no time at all the miracle call came in from Royal Caribbean Cruiselines: "Do the kids need donations of Lotion and Conditioner?" (The same place the hundreds of Pillows came from)...

They sent the designated "Haiti Relief" cases directly to the shipping terminal in Miami for us. Praise God there is now lots of it for the Children, The Church, Clinic and Old folks home too.

Thanks to Robert Stryhanyn and his family donation of funding for a truck from the ship in Haiti to the Orphanage, 300 Pillows, 24 cots, and many Cases of Lotion and Hair conditioner arrived at the Orphanage at night, in the rain, aboard 2 pickup trucks/top-tops.
Amazing we finally have a way to get these donated items to them. A second truck load from the same ship delivered 30 more cases just last week...God is working! Ship-owner, Gladys in bottom photo below.

"We have to help the Children" she said with a serious looking smile...and she sure has already.
Thrilled to inform you all that a LOT more donations are on the way by the end of September.

On Friday Sept 3rd, in Ft. Lauderdale, we brave 3 rented a U-haul truck with donations provided by Lesley Warrick, Executive Director of "Seafarers House" in Port Everglades Florida

Captain Joei, Godsister Meg Iannaccone, Godbrother's Dana Schilbrock and Robert Whitlow spent 12 hours sorting, packing, taping, loading, delivering....then unloading and palletizing 10 full pallets to be shipped to the Orphanage. About half of what was there. We went through 1200 feet of purple duct tape!

Special thanks to Godbrother Robert Whitlow (above) for getting us the warehouse space in Ft. Lauderdale for over 6 months now, which still houses about half the donations arrived in Ft. Lauderdale since the earthquake.

These donations are still arriving from so many Godparents like Jane Carron from "Generous Hearts" drove for 2 days each way to bring us the boxes Meg is loading on a pallet in the photo left.

Thank you Captain Jack for the big red chair, and the little refrigerator ... of all things we off loaded, that big red chair was a super Hit with Gladys who owns the 250' ship and donates the shipping. She has accepted it as a thank you gift for her house in Haiti...for being our shipping Angel.

"Big Mama" (above) and her "Team of Life"  here in Ft. Lauderdale donated over 100 boxes of relief supplies. Used sails and a big pile of wood were donated from Godbrother John Muir of "Shake a Leg Miami".  Even people who had yard-sales donated a lot.

Get signed up NOW for the October Godparenting trip. Special prayers for our own transportation  before then. Be a part of helping these adorable little ones we call our "Godchildren".
